Smithie Lee Long 86, of Nakina, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018. She was born August 14, 1931 in Columbus County, NC the daughter of the late Claude P. Reaves and Mabelle Faulk Reaves. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Major Genavy Long, and a son, Orby Devon Long.

Smithie was a member of Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church. She was the WMU Director, VBS Director, choir member, and assistant pianist. She was formerly employed with Columbus County Schools as a Cafeteria Manager for more than thirty years.

She is survived by a son, Major Long, Jr. and wife, Byrlia of Nakina; daughters, Carolyn Hilburn and husband, Charles of Whiteville, Shirley Wright and husband, Bob of Clarendon, Nancy Register and husband, Terry of Whiteville; brother, Calvin Reaves of Nakina; grandchildren, Clarissa Oakley and husband, James, Adam Wright and wife, Leslie, Cassie Cartrette and husband, Shane, Christy Madden and husband, Mike, Candy Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Julie Watson and husband, Nick; great grandchildren, Grayson Oakley, Ryan Oakley, Haley Bullard, Madelyn Watson, Evan Madden, Brent Bullard, Braydon Cartrette, Ella Watson, Trent Madden, and Wyatt Cartrette; daughter-in-law, Agnes Cox of Tabor City. Her funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Steve Nobles and Rev.

Joe Turner. Burial will be in Reaves Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the home of Ms. Long after 2:00 pm Saturday.
