Sister Mary Catherine Doone, the former Sister Helena was born in Beaverdale, PA, on June 30, 1934, and died October 7, 2018 at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, New York. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Thibaut) Doone. Sister Mary entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1952 and was professed in 1955.

She received her B.S. degree from Rosary Hill (Daemen) College in Buffalo, New York, in 1968, and an M.A. in Reading from Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee, WI in 1981. Sister Mary taught at schools in Buffalo, NY, Columbus, OH and Greenville, SC. She was a Reading Specialist at the Diocesan Child Guidance Center, the Columbus Family and Child Guidance Center and St. John Learning Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Sister Mary also served as Treasurer at St. Leo Convent, Columbus Ohio and volunteered in family, community (as part-time Provincial Councilor) and parish ministries. Sister Mary has been a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center since 2015. Wake on Wednesday from 2-5PM with a prayer service at 3:45 PM.

followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 PM in the Sister’s Chapel. Burial will be held Thursday at 9:30AM Besides her Sisters in Community, Sister Mary is survived by her sister, Helen; sisters-in-law, Kate and Lois; brother-in-law Jeff Huffman, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by parents, Mary and Michael Doone, Sr.; brothers and sisters, James, Michael, Margaret (Peggy), Lucille (Luci), Kathleen and Kevin; and brother-in-law, Kevin.
