Sybil “Lynette” Smith Swayney, 77, of Cherokee, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Hermitage Assisted Living in Sylva. Lynette was born in Rockingham, NC on October 22, 1940 to the late Charles Frazier Smith and Nellie Palestine Lovin. She was a graduate of UNC Pembroke and was married to the late John Wesley Swayney.

Lynette loved to travel and enjoyed reading and learning. In addition to her husband and parents, Lynette was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Stephen Brown, and a brother, Floyd Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Swayney and husband Clyde Dull; a son, Nick Swayney and significant other Finkbone, all of Cherokee; a sister, Martha Thompson; a brother, Willis Smith, both of Ellerbe, NC; two granddaughters, Ashleigh Stephens and husband Cory Stephens of Blairsville, GA and Jessica Dull and significant other Charlie Ensley of Cherokee; two great-grandsons, Hayes Stephens and Lincoln Stephens, both of Blairsville; and a niece, Laura Dunn of Ellerbe.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Straight Fork Baptist Church, Big Cove Loop, in Cherokee, NC.
