Mary Shields Minery, 82, of Fletcher, passed away on April 30, 2018 at Mission Hospital after a short illness. Mary was born on October 11, 1935 to Wesley Vergil Shields and Florence May Merris, of Deep River, in Guilford County, North Carolina. Mary was a long time employee of CTS and ACI of Asheville.

She joined the Methodist Church in 1944 and was an active member of Fletcher United Methodist Church and their Women’s Group. Mary is survived by her sister Verlee Underwood of High Point and Wade Shields of Sandy Ridge, NC. She is preceded in death by her siblings WA Shields, Roy Shields, Mildred Robertson and Ruby Marshall.

She also leaves behinds her children Michele Reagan, Karen Guthrie, Mike Minery and JJ Minery. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jessica Rowland, Dalton Guthrie, John Guthrie, Jordan Honeycutt, Erica Crosby, Aimee Minery, and Ashley Minery and one great grandson, Dakota Johnson. A service honoring Mary’s life will be held on May 19th at 2:00pm at Fletcher United Methodist Church and officiated by Rev.

Steven Ray. Mary will be laid to rest beside her late husband, John Minery, at Ashlawn Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family asks that you consider making a donation to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, located at 31 Glendale Ave in Asheville, in her memory.
