Sydney Cleveland, 72, of Hartsel, CO died September 11, 2018 shortly after reaching the summit of Mount Cameron with his grandson. Syd was born September 17, 1945 in Chattanooga, TN to Clyde and Carolyn (Page) Cleveland. He spent his childhood years in Singapore and Indonesia where his father served as a missionary.

Syd returned to the States for high school where he met Sherrylin Smith. They were married March 7, 1965 in Takoma Park, MD. After graduating from seminary, he served as the pastor of multiple churches before retiring to Hartsel, CO.

Syd was also a published author. Syd enjoyed hiking and climbing throughout Colorado. Having also worked as a photographer, he enjoyed capturing the beauty of God’s creation.

In his retirement he obtained his technician, general class and extra class Ham radio licenses. Syd initiated the Colorado Emergency Reporting Net (CERN). He was a contributing member of Ham radio weather nets.

He and his wife’s two dogs, Scout and Tess, were inseparable friends. Syd was a well-loved active member in his church. Syd is survived by his wife Sherry; brother Edgar Cleveland (Teresa); sons Todd Cleveland (Lisa) and Scott Cleveland (Margaret); grandchildren Christopher, Caleb, Zachary, James and Benjamin; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He will be deeply missed by his family, many friends and parishioners of the churches he served. A memorial service will be held at Mountain Heights Baptist Church in Buena Vista, CO on Sunday September 30, 2018 at 1:30 pm.
