Sylva’s Obituary Sylva Marie (Dahl) Kubicek, age 83, of Lake Crystal, died on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 29, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Sylva was born on April 20, 1935 to Goodwin and Martha (Hagen) Dahl in Waseca, MN. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at North Waseca Lutheran Church.

She graduated from Central High in 1952. Sylva attended Augsburg College from 1952-1954 and sang in the Augsburg Choir. After attending the University of Minnesota she graduated from Mankato State University.

Sylva was united in marriage to Joseph Kubicek on June 12, 1954. After living in Pine City, MN they moved to Lake Crystal in 1959 where they raised their family. Sylva was a special education teacher for many years, both in Lake Crystal and Madelia.

After retiring, she became a Volunteer Guardian ad Litem for Blue Earth and Nicollet counties for ten years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal and served in many capacities, being a long time choir member. She was active in many organizations including 4-H, both as a member and a leader, Cub Scouts, Luther Memorial Home board, Lake Crystal Area Historical Society, Thrivent County board, and the Blue Earth County Historical Society.

She was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Education Association. Sylva was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her Tuesday bridge outings. Sylva is survived by her husband, Joseph of Lake Crystal; son, James of Grand Rapids, MI; daughter, Kathryn Moe (Kirk Piepho) of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Elizabeth Moe of Seattle, WA, Andrew (Sarah) Moe of Minneapolis, and Kathryn and Meredith Kubicek of Grand Rapids, MI; nieces, Paula Huston, Gail Westberg, Gretchen Steer, and Christina Stout; and nephew, Ron Dahl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Wade and John; brothers, Lyle and Lowell Dahl; son-in-law, Arthur Moe; and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marilee Mead.
