Sylvester J. Mayes, 87 of Shalersville died Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and their Crossroads Hospice Team. He was born May 6, 1931 in Punxsutawney, PA to Sylvester and Mabel (Humble) Mayes. Sylvester was a US Army veteran, member of the Aurora Mennonite Church and worked as a dockhand for Gateway Shipping.

Survivors include his wife of over 61 years Donna (Bartlebaugh), children Roger G. “Glenn” (Abbie) Mayes and Leesa M. Large, grandchildren Heather Huffman and Dustin Mayes, great grandchildren Ginanna and Calvin and siblings Jim Mayes, Shirley Smith and Frank “Butch” Mayes. Calling hours will be from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11:30 AM Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Aurora Mennonite Church. Pastor David Martino and Pastor Jim Schwartz will officiate.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Veteran’s Administration or Crossroads Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel.
