Obituary for Terry L. Straatmann A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Terry L. Straatmann, 73 of Lincoln, formerly of Axtell and Gibbon died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 15, 2018 at Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln. The Rev.

Michael Ryan will officiate. Military rites and flag presentation will be conducted at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

A native of central Nebraska, Terry graduated from Axtell High School in 1963 and attended Kearney State College before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his service, he was treated for cancer with radiation that defined much of his health for the rest of his life. Always an entrepreneur, he thrived creating his own businesses and helping other businesses succeed.

His technical knowledge and customer service skills culminated in his move to South Florida in the 80’s where he eventually retired from a very successful career in Audio/Visual Design Engineering. Upon retirement in 2008, he returned to Nebraska to be closer to all of his family. He was a passionate outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, backpacking, and camping.

He traveled extensively for most of his life, visiting many places in North America and abroad. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Fitzke) Straatmann; his son, Michael and wife Lori of Lincoln; and his daughter, Jennifer and husband Jamaal of Madison, WI. He is also survived by two grandsons, Nels Straatmann of Lincoln and Quinn Buckner of Madison; as well as his brothers, Rick and wife Barb of Holdrege and Randy and wife Nancy of Kearney.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Shirley (Rasmussen) Straatmann of Axtell. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Terry L. Straatmann please visit our Sympathy Store.
