Obituary for Thomas L. Ellis Thomas L. Ellis, 58, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:06 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Thomas was born on July 17, 1960, in Murphysboro, to Forest Ellis and Anna Mae (Whelchel) Ellis. He was the former warehouse supervisor for NAPA and had worked there for twenty plus years.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of Alto Pass and was a member of the church board. He loved the Lord. He enjoyed talking about the Lord and mentoring young married couples.
He played the piano and loved music. He had a group called the Joyful Spirits and later another one called the Overcomers. They traveled and performed all over Southern Illinois.
Tom married Mary “Penny” Pyatt on July 26, 1986, in Murphysboro, and she survives. Other survivors include one son Nathaniel Ellis of Murphysboro; his mother Anna Mae Ellis of Murphysboro three foster children Angela (Shawn) Gemmecke and their children, Michael McCubbin, and Lee (Breanna) Bell, Jr. and their children; four sisters Betty O’Guinn of Murphysboro, Linda Ellis of Monticello, Arkansas, Judy Butler of Murphysboro, and Debbie Worthen of Warren Arkansas; and one brother Elmer Ellis of Vergennes. He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters Doris Pizarro and Barbara Ellis, and one brother Willard Ellis.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Carter officiating and burial at Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
