Umberto Melaragno, 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away May 22, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Belinda (Gatta) Melarango for 66 years. Mr. Melargano was born May 19, 1929, in Villa San Michele, Italy, son of the late Edoardo and Elissa (Iacovatta) Melaragno.

He immigrated to the United States in 1969. He was employed by the Torrington Company as a custodian until his retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Giuseppe Melaragno and his wife Lois, Antonio Melaragno and his wife Teresa, Rico Melaragno and his wife Lisa; one daughter, Elisa Lombardi and her husband Camillo, all of Torrington; one brother, John Melaragno and his wife Eleanor of New Hartford, CT; one sister, Maria DiGioacchino and her husband Luigi of Schenectady, NY; thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Maria Melaragno, two brothers, Antonio Melaragno, Salvatore Melaragno and one sister, Lucia Melaragno. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum at St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at Cook Funeral Home.
