Obituary for Verlan “Dean” McNew Verlan “Dean” McNew, 61, of Saltville, VA passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA. He was born in Yuma, AZ on May 21, 1957. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Alfred McNew and a sister, Karen Lee Hess.

He was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was a truck driver and owned his own truck for several years. Among his hobbies, he loved hunting deer and turkey.

Dean is survived by his wife of 29 years, Donna McNew; son, Jonathan McNew and special daughter-in-law, Alisha; mother, Betty Campbell McNew; brother, Gary Steven McNew and wife Sherry R. McNew; special niece, Carolyn Rudisill; and several other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, Bristol, VA. A Graveside Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, VA with Brother Fred Reynolds and Chaplain Doran Osborne officiating.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military rites will be provided by Chapter 40 of the D.A.V. and the Virginia National Guard Honor’s Team. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Chapter 40 of the D.A.V., PO Box 775, Bristol, VA 24203-0775 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
