Verna P. Parker August 12, 1919 – February 24, 2019 Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Verna P. Parker, 99, of Highland, went to be with her Lord February 24, 2019. A Celebration of her life is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Pastor Jerry Petering will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 -6 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will meet with friends one hour prior to services. Verna was a lifelong resident of Highland.

She was born August 12, 1919 in Highland, the youngest of nine children of George and Rose Brunner Parker. Verna graduated from Highland High School and later with an associate’s degree from Highland Community Junior College. Directly out of high school she went to work for the telephone company in Highland.

Verna worked for them a number of years before she was transferred to Hiawatha where she worked until retiring. She was a dedicated member of the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Vanderslice Chapter #184, Order of Eastern Star in Highland.

Verna enjoyed her family, and in later years, her nieces and nephews families. She was blessed with excellent health and sharp mind until recent days. She was also very fortunate to be able to stay at home as well.

She will be missed by her nieces and nephews that survive. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Eugene, Lloyd, Homer, James, Neal; sisters: Josephine Sands, Dorothy Lombard, and an infant sister.
