Obituary for Virginia “Dumpie” Tierney Hawkins Virginia Tierney Hawkins, 90, who was affectionately known as “Dumpie” of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, under the Care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was preceded in passing by the love of her life, her husband James Ralph Hawkins, who died in 1991. She was born on December 11, 1927 in Daviess County to the late Peter Tierney and Virginia Thompson Tierney.
She loved her yard work and morning walks. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral, and volunteered at the Help Office and Food Bank for over 20 years. She retired from GE after 44 years of service.
Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother James B. Tierney, her sisters Catherine Conkright, Margaret Wahler, Gertrude Trodglen, Betty Jo Thompson, and Ruth Conkright. She is survived by her sister Anna Lee Barr of Owensboro, Kentucky and 31 nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at St. Stephen Cathedral, with Father Ed Bradley officiating.
Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, and 9:00 am to 10:00 am Wednesday. Prayers will be said at 6:30 Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Help Office; 1316 West 4th Street; Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
