OBITUARY Virginia S West August 22, 1920 – November 8, 2018 Graveside service for Virginia S. West, age 98 of Sylacauga, will be Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette County. She passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

She is survived by numerous cousins and other family members and friends. Virginia was a graduate of Fayette County High School and Auburn University. She was the director of the Sylacauga Housing Authority for 50 years.

She was a member of Broadway Church of Christ and of numerous civic clubs. She was the past President of the Sylacauga Garden Club and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was the first female President of the Alabama Association of Housing Authority and the Southeastern Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities.

She managed and did a lot of grants for Sylacauga Revitalization projects and Watershed Projects. In recognition of her contributions, a public housing complex in Sylacauga and Lake in Talladega County was named after her. She loved to travel and explore the world and explored through books when she no longer could travel.
