James W. (Wally) Denzer of Mahomet, formerly of Bloomington, passed away February 15, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn hospital in Normal. He was born August 29, 1932 in Bloomington, to Fred and Ruth (Shoemaker) Denzer. He graduated from Normal Community High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army.

He farmed his entire life on the farm where he was raised. He worked with his brothers, tending the farm, after their father passed when they were teenagers. Wally was also a salesman for livestock equipment and was a contractor for many hog buildings around Central Illinois.

He served on the Illinois Soybean Association board and traveled the U.S. and to Brazil promoting soybeans. He married Norma Scott in 1956; she died in 1999. He is survived by 3 sons; Gary (Cindy) Denzer of Mahomet, IL; Lee Denzer, Kewanee, IL; Alan (Donna) Denzer, Kansas City , MO; daughter-in-law Marie (Joseph) Denzer-Farley, Danvers, IL; a brother Jerry (Vi) Denzer, Bloomington and sister-in-law Pauline Denzer of Dawson, IL.

He has grandchildren Andrew Denzer, Joshua Denzer, Natalie Denzer, Sean (Samantha) Greene, Justine (Mark) Schuster and Jeremy (Keri) Enriquez, six great grandchildren, five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother David Denzer, a son, Adam Denzer and a granddaughter Emily Denzer. Wally knew that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior and reminded people of that daily.

He loved to dance and socialize and he enjoyed throwing parties out on the farm. He was a guy who took his work very seriously and was never comfortable telling people that he was retired, even during the last 4 years that he has been in assisted living. Over the years, he employed a lot of people as farm hands or construction crew members and took pride in seeing them develop a strong work ethic.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday February 21 at 11:00 a.m. at New Horizon Church in Champaign. There will be a time to greet the family from 9-11 before the service. Burial will be at Danvers Cemetery near Danvers, IL.

A celebration of life is being planned for later in the spring. Military burial rites will be accorded by Mahomet American Legion Post #1015. Memorials can be made to the McLean County Farm Bureau Foundation or the Blackhawk College East Foundation.
