Funeral services for Walt Malone, 78, of Pollok, will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Richard Smiley officiating. Interment will follow at the Pollok Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will have a reception at Kiwanis Park Pavilion #2 in Lufkin.

Mr. Malone was born April 30, 1940 in Ashdown, Arkansas, the son of Walter Jackson Malone Sr. and Claudia Irene (McCann) Malone, and died Friday, May 11, 2018 in Tyler. Mr. Malone enjoyed fishing and watching western movies. He was a diesel mechanic for many years and was an over the road truck driver.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley Malone of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Cheryl Malone of Lufkin, and Robby and Melony Malone of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Garland Hawk of Lufkin, and Taryn and Chad Fiebiger of Albuquerque, NM; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; son, Bryant Rentsch of Rockford, IL; daughter and husband, Pati Rentsch-Guzman and Carlos of Winthrop Harbor, IL; son, Alvin Rentsch of Bakersfield, CA; daughter and husband, Lori and Bubba Damon of Lufkin; sister, Joy Ruth Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Allen and Sheila Malone, Lawrence Duane and Margaret Malone, Larry Gene and Diane Malone, and Gary Wayne and Diana Malone; sister-in-law Rose Marie Malone; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Malone is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Claudia Malone; brother, James Malone; daughter, Debe Rodarte; and grandson, Bradley Sherrard. Pallbearers will be Bryant Rentsch, Alvin Rentsch, Caleb Hawk, and Jacob Knight.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce Malone, Wesley Malone, Chris Hawk, Walter Sutton, Stevan Alshouse, Daniel Damon, Timothy Rentsch, Christopher Rentsch, Joshua Overbey, Matthew Overbey, Carter Fiebiger, and Graeson Fiebiger. Special memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C., 20090-6011. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
