for Walter “Eagle Eye” Gaines Sr. 89, of Elyria made his transition to Heaven on April 23, 2018 in the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake, Oh, following a brief illness. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, coming to Elyria, 50 years ago. Mr. Gaines was a veteran of the United States Naval and he was employed in the Blast Furnace Department, after retiring after 30 years of service.

Mr. Gaines was a former deacon for the Unity Baptist Church, Elyria and transition to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lorain, serving as Church Deacon, choir member, church treasurer, and kitchen committee. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and talking on the CB radio the handle of “Eagle Eye” and spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, JoAnn Board of Elyria and son, Walter Gaines Jr. of Cincinnati, Oh.

; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relativities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linnie B Gaines; son, Johnny Gaines; parents, Ire Lee and Hattie Gaines; sisters, Ophela, Olivia, Beatrice, Lillie Mae, Ira Lee and brother, Richard. Friends may call Monday, April 30, 2018, in the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lorain 3900 Clifton Ave, Lorain; from 11:00am until time of service at 12:00noon.

Pastor Peter Tower will officiate. Burial at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
