Walter’s Obituary THURMAN and HARTFORD — Walter L. Baker, 83, formerly of Thurman, and most recently of Gilchrist Hill Road, Hartford, passed away November 1, 2018 at his home. Born July 22, 1935 at his family homestead in Thurman, he was the son of the late Irving G. and Pearl E. (Pelletier) Baker. He has always been a hard worker.

After retiring from NYS Dept. of Transportation, he worked for Double H Hole in the Woods where he was honored to meet Paul Newman, then he worked in the maintenance department at Great Escape, followed by Walmart on Upper Glen Street, and most recently took a job at Ginny Rae’s Restaurant. He married Marilyn J. Ryder December 1, 1974 at the Kenyontown Methodist Church in Thurman followed by a reception at Northwoods in Athol sharing 44 devoted years together until his untimely passing.

Besides his love to stay busy, he enjoyed old classic country music, camping with his family, and doing things around the house. He also liked taking day trips traveling around the area visiting local folks and relatives. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one grandson, Matthew Springer; two sisters, Beulah Vaughn and her first husband, Glendale Rounds, and her second husband John Vaughn, and sister Janet Clothier and her husband Walt; five brothers, Percy Baker, Gib Baker and his wife Nancy, Don Baker, Wendell Baker and his wife Mildred, and Stuart Baker; a brother-in-law, John Cameron. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Baker; two step children who he adopted and raised as his own, Sue (Baker) Duckett and her husband, Rob, and William Baker; 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Brett and Michael Springer, and Ashley (Baker) Simpson, Alicia Baker, and his namesake, Walter Baker; a sister, Carol Cameron; two sisters-in-law, Doris Baker, and Pauline Baker; one special niece, Lori (Baker) Fuller, and five special nephews, Vic, Van, Darryl, Donovan, and Damon Baker, along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins, and dear friends. At Walter’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
