REAM—Walter Jr., 87, Geistown, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 25, 2018 at home. Born August 13, 1931, in Johnstown, son of Walter J. and Genevieve (Stein) Ream. Preceded in death by parents and two infant sisters.

Survived by wife of 66 years, the former Janet Phillipa Gibbs whom me married May 3 1952; children, Walter Scott Ream and wife, Iva Deene (Helman), Windber; and Susan Janette, wife of George Walter Kohan, Geistown; grandchildren, Joshua Scott Ream, Jennifer Lee (Ream) Huston, and husband, Thomas Harry, Jaclyn Dawn Ream, Emilee Jean (Kohan) Croswell and husband, Michael Anthony, Neil Patrick Kohan and wife, Stephanie Mae (Blalock); great-grandchildren, Cole Thomas and Caleb Scott Huston. Brother of Grace (Stutzman/Ream) Grumbling, Westmont. He was a 1949 graduate of Johnstown High School.

After graduation, Walt worked at Weigle and Barber Printing, served in the U.S. Army in Texas, and then started a 45 year career at the Tribune-Democrat in the composing room. He retired in 1995. Devoted member of Belmont United Methodist Church, where he used computers to do video editing of the church service for broadcast on cable tv.

He enjoyed an active and happy life at the home he and his wife built in 1959. He also built his daughter’s home and an apartment near his home. He was a basketball coach for the church league and also played tennis, racquetball and bowled.

He enjoyed square dancing and gardening with Janet. After retirement, he started golfing at Oakbrook Golf Club. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of Funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with Pastor Jean Smith officiating.

Interment, Richland Cemetery. Family suggests memorial donations be made to Belmont United Methodist Church in memory of Walt. Online condolences may be posted at www.
