Life Story for Walterrene Ellard Barton Calhoun City—Walterrene Ellard Barton, 98, passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Born August 29, 1920, in Big Creek, MS, she was the daughter of the late James B. Ellard and the late Vara Carter Ellard. She was a member of Derma Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
A 1938 graduate of Vardaman High School, she was Valedictorian of her class. On November 11, 1939, she married Clifford “C.T.” Barton. They were married for 39 years until his passing in 1979.
Together, they operated a Grade A dairy for decades, while also raising a family and farming the land. She was a gifted seamstress for the Kellwood Company in Calhoun City as well and retired after 27 years of service. She loved reading, poetry, gardening and cooking for her family and was always caring for others.
She was an avid Mississippi State fan and rang her cowbell faithfully from her recliner in her later years. She followed current events closely, and her family says God left her on earth long enough to get her vote in for the recent mid-term elections. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her memory will be cherished forever in their hearts.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018, at 2:30pm at Derma Baptist Church. There will also be a visitation on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1:00pm until 2:30pm at the church.
Bro. Roger Reeder will be officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Springs Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmie Barton, Jr., Benjamin Barton Thomas, David Michael Gillespie, Jackson Samuel Clinton, Daniel Gillespie Lee, Jacob Ryan Clinton, David Clifford Barton, and Jimmy Howell.
