Wanda Leah Dowell Smock, 86, of Vernon, passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Born April 12, 1932 in Seymour, Mrs. Smock was the daughter of Van and Viola (Coryea) Dowell. She married William “Bill” Smock on October 25, 1952 in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on January 25, 2014.

Mrs. Smock was a 1950 graduate of North Vernon High School and attended one year of college at Ball State University. She worked in the Jennings County Clerk’s Office in Vernon, retiring after 20 plus years. Mrs. Smock was a member of Vernon Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling, and crafts such as painting, ceramics, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and oil painting.

She loved to travel. She is survived by her daughters, Teri (Steve) Sorenson and Lisa (Danny) Barton both of North Vernon, and Beth Smock of Houghton, Michigan; grandchildren, Isaac Fry and , Travis (Meagan) Sorenson both of North Vernon, Trent (Kacee) Sorenson of Commiskey, and Matt (Shasta) Woodard of Lovett; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Paul Dowell; and sisters, Joyce Hubbard, Kate Carney, Maxine Patrick, Mary Wilds, Naomi Scroggins and Thelma Dowell.

In keeping with her wishes, private services will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Mrs. Smock to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
