Wesley and Carol’s Obituary Wesley William Pickett was born August 8, 1928 in Midwest, WY to Charles and Dorothy (Blythe) Pickett. Wes attended Natrona County Public Schools and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1947. He graduated from Casper College, Casper, WY in 1949 with an A. A. degree in Accounting.
Wes was active in the National Guard from 1946 to 1962, serving the states of Wyoming, North Dakota and Montana. Before leaving the Guard, Wes earned the rank of Master Sargent. While he was in Army Radio School in Fort Knox, Louisville, KY, he married Carol Ann Bollum, his high school sweetheart, on September 8, 1951.
Their marriage lasted for 61 years, ending with Mr. Pickett’s death on August 31, 2012. Wes was the proud parent to Stephen Wesley Pickett and Susan Carol (Terry) Hughes and proud grandfather to Brandon D. Hughes and Douglas D. Hughes. During his 30 years in Marketing and Accounting with what was then the Exxon Corporation, Mr. Pickett’s family lived in WY, ND, MT, OK and TX.
He retired in 1982. In 1985 he resumed employment after moving to Denton, TX, working for the Denton Record-Chronicle until 1998 as a District Manager in the Circulation Department. Wes was an avid musician, playing clarinet and saxophone in local dance bands in high school and college.
His hobbies involved skiing, horseback riding into the Casper Mountain Range, bicycling with his dogs. Mr. Pickett’s civic pursuits included the Boy Scouts and Swim Team Booster Club. Besides his children, Mr. Pickett is survived by his niece, Trish (Peter) DiClementi and her family and nephew Craig (Rafaela) Pickett and his family, as well as other extended family.
Carol Ann (Bollum) Pickett was born in Casper, WY on February 20, 1931 to Lyle. T. and Jo Anna (Thompson) Bollum. Carol died May 9, 2019.
Carol graduated from Natrona County High School in 1949 and completed her A. A. degree in child Development (Teacher Preparation) in 1951. Before transferring to the University of Wyoming on a Teacher’s scholarship, she travelled with her parents to Fort Knox, Louisville, KY to wed her high school sweetheart, Wes Pickett, on September 8, 1951 as he was scheduled to join the Korean Conflict. After being re-assigned stateside, Carol and Wes resumed their lives (now as a couple) in Casper.
Wes worked at the local refinery and Carol worked as an Oil and Gas Tax Audit Clerk for Mobil Oil Company. As years advanced, she became the proud mother to Stephen Wesley Pickett and Susan Carol (Terry) Hughes and proud grandmother to Brandon D. Hughes and Douglas D. Hughes. Carol resumed her career in education, serving as transcript evaluator in the Office of the Registrar at Houston Baptist University, Houston, TX (1980-1985) and Texas Woman’s University, Denton, TX Graduate Admissions Office (1989-2001) evaluating student candidate transcripts for the Occupational and Physical Therapy Departments.
Carol retired in 2002 to enjoy the sights and sounds of scenic Oregon with Wes, returning to Denton following his death in 2012. Mrs. Pickett’s quiet pleasures were her dogs, reading and word search puzzles. Besides her children, Carol is survived by her cousins Dorothy Jean Maddux and Helen Warburton and their families and a niece Trish (Peter) DiCementi and nephew Craig (Rafaela) Pickett and their families.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Wesley W. Pickett on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Denton, TX.
