Wilbur D. Turner May 29, 1934 – January 29, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Wilbur Durant (Bill) Turner, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin died peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Born in Newark, NJ, Bill resided most of his life in Medford, NJ before moving to Marlton. He was the youngest child of Edward and Dora (nee Rooney) Turner.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Frances (nee Wilke) Turner, and their children and spouses, Jill (Johnson) and Ben Wiggins, Gail (Turner) and Robert Cragg, Bruce and Sarah (Campbell) Turner, Robin (Turner) and Steve Davis, Sandra (Turner) Butler, and Wade and Karen (Hash) Turner. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren – David Johnson, Amy (Johnson) Smith, Bryan Cragg, Nicholas Cragg, Andrew Turner, Samantha Turner, Madison Butler, Linwood Vaughn Butler, Tyver Butler, Thalia Turner, and Penelope Turner, and 2 great grandchildren, Grover and Hugo. Bill was predeceased by his parents Edward and Dora, and 11 siblings – Althea, Dorothy, Marguerite, Nelson, Lilly, Ernest (Edwina Wendy-deceased), Randolph (Roberta-deceased), Charles (Esther-surviving), Robert (Barbara-deceased), Gladys (Charles O’Connell- surviving), and Patricia, and is survived by one sister, Gloria (nee Turner) Hendrickson (Richard-deceased).

Bill was a Navy veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956 as an AT-3 aboard the aircraft carriers Valley Forge and Leyte. In business Bill worked as a salesman and sales manager for the distribution of electronic components for Hamilton Avnet & Hallmark Electronics, among others, concluding his career with his own business, Delaware Valley Electronics. Bill was an athlete in his youth, and enjoyed football, baseball and boxing.

But, more than anything, he enjoyed cheering for his children and grandchildren in any of their endeavors. He loved to garden, and couldn’t wait to get his vegetable garden planted. He was equally fond of working with his hands, and could always be counted on to have the tools that you needed to perform any task.

His love of technology extended to photography, audio equipment to enjoy his favorite music, and more recently, his computer, phone and iPad. Relatives and friends may gather on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 10-11 AM, at St. Mary of the Lakes R.C. Church, 40 Jackson Road, Medford, NJ. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM, at the church.

Interment will follow in Jesus Bread of Life Cemetery, Mt. Laurel, NJ. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mathis Funeral Home, Medford, NJ.
