William “Bill” E. Beuoy of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, Indiana went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Grace Village Health Care at the age of 89. He was born on April 20, 1929 in Eaton, Indiana to Frank Beuoy and Florence (Hartzell) Beuoy. He was married to Ann Crooks, and then later Bill re-married on April 14, 1962 to Gloria Joy Gibson, who survives.
Bill received his B.S. Degree from Ball State University in 1951. He served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War and was able to attend the Navy Electronics School. In 1959 he was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to study at Ohio State University and he received his Master’s Degree.
Later he did post-graduate studies at Ball State University and attended a National Science Foundation Summer Institute at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He taught math and science at Harford City, Indiana from 1955-1958; and physics, chemistry, earth science and astronomy at Muncie Central from 1959-1989, spending four of those years as Planetarium Director. In 1990-1991 he taught at Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky.
He and his wife, Joy, spent ten winters with NOMADS doing disaster relief in the southern U.S. and later led several Mission work camps from the North Webster United Methodist Church. Bill never tired of teaching and taught astronomy to several Boy Scout groups. He was a life member and past board member of the National Science Teachers Association, past board member of the Indiana Science Supervisors Association, regional council member of the National Association of Geology Teachers, member of the Great Lakes Planetarium Association, past member of Sigma Zeta and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternities; and a longtime member of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club.
He received an award from the American Association of Physics Teachers in 1989 as Indiana’s Outstanding Physics Teacher. As a young boy in Eaton, Indiana, Bill gave his life to the Lord. He was a former member of the Madison Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, former member of the North Webster United Methodist Church, and was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed traveling and helping in disaster areas, fishing, camping, wood working and lapidary. Bill very much enjoyed his family and teaching each grandchild how to fish and water ski. He lived a full life and will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and the countless students he had the privilege of teaching.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Joy Beuoy (Warsaw, Indiana); two sons: James Beuoy (Akron, Ohio); Jay (wife Debra) Beuoy (Great Bend, Kansas); and four daughters: Karen (husband Bruce) Libey (Bellbrook, Ohio); Peggy (husband David) Liles (Raleigh, North Carolina); Rebecca (husband Lyle) Ortner (Bettendorf, Iowa); and Melissa (husband Mark) Warner (Warsaw, Indiana). Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his sister: Mary F. Roberts (Middletown, Indiana). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Earl and James Beuoy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. His funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 High Street, Warsaw, Indiana. Private family graveside service will take place at Mount Tabor Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana with military rites conducted by active duty members of the Navy Honor Guard.
