William E. Lawrence Obituary William E. Lawrence, 85 Gray – William “Bill” E. Lawrence, 85, of Gray, Maine, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on May 24, 2018, at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by family. Bill was born on January 7, 1933, in Westbrook, Maine, to Arno and Cora (Coffey) Lawrence. He was the middle child of five and completed his education in the Westbrook School System, where he enjoyed sports.

In April of 1952, Bill joined the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany with the 4345 7th Trans Trk Co. After being Honorably Discharged in May of 1954, he returned to the Greater Portland Area where he continued in the trucking business, both in construction and over the road for several years prior to being hired by Otis Elevator Company as an Installation and Service Technician. After retiring from Otis Elevator Company at age 55, he fully enjoyed his 30 years of retirement.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, guns, hunting, fishing, long drives in the country and, most of all, spending time with family and friends. Bill had a larger than life personality, great sense of humor and always had a joke or story to share.

Time spent with Bill was not soon forgotten. He was a big hearted, compassionate, family man – a loving and devoted Husband, Father, and Papa. He loved us all and was loved by us all every day, unconditionally.

In October of 2009, Bill married his “Beautiful Bride”, Judith “Judy” Moulton Harriman, his longtime friend and companion. Predeceasing him are his parents, Arno and Cora, and brothers, Robert and Henry. He is survived by his “Bride”, Judy; sons Douglas W. Lawrence of Portland, ME, and Robert M. Harriman & wife, Donna, of Grand Isle, VT; daughters Kelly Lawrence Norton of Cromwell, CT, and Molly Harriman Dentremont of Ocala, FL; Granddaughters Alisha, Kacey, Alexa, Melissa, Kayla, Sara, and Ashley; grandsons Scott, Bobby Jr, and Jason; great-grandson Logan; great-granddaughter Sofie; sisters Elizabeth Lawrence Gowen & husband, Frederick, of Westbrook, ME, and Cathy Lawrence Raley & husband, Daniel, of San Diego, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to recognize and thank the medical team of the Special Care Unit 4 at Maine Medical Center for their outstanding care and compassion. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland on June 20, 2018, at 2PM.
