William E. “Bill” Trampe, 90 of rural Owasa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Jackson Township Cemetery in rural Owasa. Memorials may be directed to the Elevator Fund at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. Bill was born on March 28, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to his parents William and Bess (Fuller) Trampe.

He attended public school in Milwaukee and graduated from Custer High School in the class of 1946. After hitchhiking to California, he moved to Eldora, Iowa that year. He was employed by the Crosley Farm Store in Eldora, Iowa.

In 1948 he purchased the acreage that is now the site of the Eldora industrial park. On November 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Margaret Joan Folkerts at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. To this union two children were born, William Lee and Retta Kay.

Margaret passed away on November 23, 2003 concluding 52 years of marriage. In 1961 the family moved to the Polley farm near Owasa. Bill purchased the farm in 1964 where he continued to live until moving to Scenic Manor in 2017.

Bill was Jackson Township Clerk for two terms and a member of the Hardin County Conservation Board for 20 years. His greatest joy was his involvement in the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. He taught high school and adult Sunday school classes for many years.

He also served on the church advisory boards in the role of deacon. Bill was an avid reader and had an extensive library. He enjoyed his annual Canadian fishing trips with his brother Gordon and his nephews.

Bill hunted and fished his entire life and even into his eighties. He will be missed and long remembered. Bill is survived by his son William Lee (Sandy) Trampe, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; daughter Retta Kay (Mike) Mitchell of Sac City, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Gordon Trampe of Springville, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a loving church family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret; brother Richard Trampe and sister Marlene Blaeske.
