William (Bill) G. Rath, 74, of Hazlet, died peacefully with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with leukemia, on Friday, June 8th, 2018 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey. Originally from Bayonne, Bill attended Marist High School and Seton Hall University where he earned a Master’s Degree in History. In the late 1960’s, William proudly served our country with the United States Navy.

In 1977, Bill relocated to Hazlet where he raised his family. Over the years, he worked in Purchasing and Inventory Control at General Cable in Woodbrige and Enzon Pharmaceuticals in South Plainfield, retiring in 2011. Bill was also an avid reader and a huge fan of the New York Mets, New York Giants, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bill is predeceased by his parents, George and Helen (Kosinski) Rath, and a brother Anthony. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Blake) Rath, his loving children, Melissa Breil and her husband, Christian, of Gambrills, Maryland, Erica Cermak and her husband, Steven, of Cranford, New Jersey, Christopher Rath and his wife, Lindsay, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, and his cherished grandchildren, George Cermak, Jacob Cermak, James Breil, Sean Breil, Shea Cermak, Emily Breil, Nora Rath, Rhys Cermak, and Willa Rath.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends. Bill will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.

A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home during visitation hours. At a later date, Bill’s cremains will be interred at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey in a private ceremony. As per the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.
