Mr. William L. Van Wert, age 89, passed away early Wednesday morning November 14, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region. The son of the late William and Margaret (Bokart) Van Wert, he was born July 31, 1929 in Munger. Bill served his country with the U.S. Army.

He was a foreman with Alpha Asphalt for 36 years. Bill enjoyed all sports and was an avid Tiger’s fan. On October 28, 1950 Bill married the former Esther V. Lukowski and she preceded him in death on April 18, 2006.

He is survived by… Read More » his seven children, Terrence (Brenda) Van Wert of St. George, Utah, Robert (Kayleen) Van Wert, Sally (Dan Fath) Kaminski, Judy Wiesenauer and William Van Wert, all of Bay City, Mary Ann (Robert) Currier of Saginaw and Carolyn (Greg) DeShone of Merrill; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Elizabeth, Michael, Nathaniel, Janet, Laura, Kristina, Christopher, Jordan and Emily; 13 great-grandchildren; his special friend, Pauline Cole; three sisters, Margaret Gwizdala, Lucille (Jerry) Kinsbury and Lorraine (Charlie) Nichols; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Wiesenauer; three brothers, James (Beverly) Van Wert, Raymond Van Wert and Alfred Van Wert; and three sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Arlene Van Wert and Dorothy Van Wert. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Trahan Funeral Chapel.

Mr. E.J. Brown will preside with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
