William Robert “Bill” Choate August 13, 1931 – May 08, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card William Robert “Bill” Choate, 87, of McAlester, formerly of Checotah, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in McAlester. Graveside funeral services will be Monday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanna Cemetery, under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Bill Choate was born on August 13, 1931 in Hanna to William and Elsie Mae Choate.

He grew up there and then lived his adult life in Checotah. He married Blanche Josephine Wells, who preceded him in death in 1984. He later married Barbara Sloan, who also preceded him in death.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged. Bill owned and operated Bill’s Barber Shop in Checotah for over 50 years, and in his spare time he had a herd of cattle to tend to. Bill was a devoted, long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah.

Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Sandy Choate of McAlester; a grandson, Trae Alan Choate; step children, Tammy Sloan and Eddie Sloan and Eddie’s son, Jonathan Sloan; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack D. and Betty Choate of Okemah. In addition to both his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
