Obituary of William Cameron Schenectady- William J. Cameron, 85, of Rotterdam, died Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 12, 1933, to Rose and Donald Cameron. He attended St. Joseph’s Academy, through his elementary and high school education.

He was raised by his loving mother Rose, and her sisters, Katie Loehr and Sophie Homic with strength and independence that fostered his love of family, impeccable work ethic, and deep seeded faith. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, beside his brother Donald, who both honored and had a fierce love of their country. William was the beloved husband of 60 years to Helen Bobowski Cameron.

He is survived by his daughters, Laurie LoStritto, (Agostino), Jane Cameron Sanderson, (William Sanderson), Mary Rose Waters, (Donald), all residing in Rotterdam. He was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren, Marisa , Christian, Alexandra, Angelique, William, Blake and Elaina. Sister Shirley Virag of Syracuse, sister in laws Florence Macejka, Sophie Jankewicz both of Scotia, Elizabeth Cameron of Roanoke, VA.

, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Rose Cameron, and his brother Donald Cameron. William was a loving husband, devoted father grandfather, and exemplified the meaning of patriarch of the family.

He was an avid gardener, painter, and fabulous cook. He loved to travel, with trips to Italy, enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, and family vacations throughout the USA. He earned a BS Degree in Economics from Siena College, and was employed at the Army Depot in Rotterdam and the Watervliet Arsensal as a Personnel Staffing Specialist for the majority of his career.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, a member of the Rotterdam Elks, and PAV. William was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching MLB and the NFL, a die hard NY Yankee and Dallas Cowboys fan. He cherished the family dog Duncan, who spent many faithful hours by his side.

He was well known throughout the community, always lending a helping hand to various charities and organizations. His warm smile, gregarious personality, and loving spirit will be remembered always. Calling Hours are scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2018 At Daly Funeral Home, 6-8pm.

Funeral service Friday, November 9 ,2018 at 9am at St. Joseph’s Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
