Obituary for Willie Barnes North Augusta, SC – Willie Young Barnes crossed that glorious bridge to Heaven on January 9th, 2019. She is now forever united with her father, William Young; her mother, Donnie Bell Young James; her step-father, Doris Gerald James, Sr; her sisters, Florine Young Taylor and Helen James Floyd, and her brothers, Doris Gerald James, Jr and Dannie E James, Sr. Willine was born July 23, 1929 in Blythe, Ga. She was the valedictorian of Blythe High School class of 1946.

Following graduation, she worked for JB White Dept Store on Broad St. In 1948, she began work as a secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1579. It was there that she met the love of her life, George Thomas Barnes. She and George married in 1950 and shared their lives together for 68 wonderful years.

In 1960, Willine and George were blessed with their son, Barry Thomas Barnes. Aside from her marriage to George, the happiest day of her life was when she held her son Barry for the first time. Willine was further blessed in 1990 with her granddaughter, Jordan Barnes.

Affectionally known as “Nana”, Willine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting their needs ahead of her own. In the mid 1960’s, George, Willine and Barry moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida where George worked on the construction of the Kennedy Space Center. Upon their return to Augusta, Willine began a career with First National Bank of Augusta.

It was there that she became “Nana” to so many. She excelled in her banking career and was loved and respected by all of her customers and co-workers. Willine retired with 30 Years of service with First National Bank, which became Trust Company and is now SunTrust.

Even after her retirement, Willine continued to work part-time with the bank for another 15 years before “officially” retiring to devote her final years to her beloved George. Willine was a former member of the historic Bath Presbyterian Church in Blythe, Ga. She later chose Grace United Methodist Church in North Augusta as her church “home” and she served the Lord through numerous service positions at the church.

Additionally, she was a member of the North Augusta Garden Club. Willine always shared a special bond with her younger sister Barbara. She and Barbara always made time to talk everyday and looked forward to their BELK shopping trips where, much to the dismay of their husbands, they would get lost for hours.

Willine loved her family, she loved her Lord and she has now won her reward for a life well lived. She will be desperately missed, but we rejoice in her life and her phenomenal example of unconditional love. In addition to her husband (George), son (Barry) and granddaughter (Jordan), Willine is survived by her daughter in law, Anne Moxley Barnes and her sister, Barbara Young Hundley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

It was always Willine’s wish to spend her final days at home. Thanks to the loving and dedicated care of Brenda, Deb, Trish, Barry and Anne, Willine’s final wish was fulfilled. A Celebration of Willine’s Life will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 am with Rev.

Jim Dennis and Dr. Joseph Lusk officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
