Wilma Jane Shreve Friend , May 02, 1932 — May 08, 2019

Wilma Jane (Shreve) Friend, 87, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland. Born May 2, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Vera June (Fulmer) Shreve. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stanley B. “Bud” Friend; one brother, Ervin Shreve; an infant brother and sister.

Wilma was a homemaker and mother. She was known as Grandma, and her family was most important to her. Wilma loved going to yard sales, reading, taking care of family and teaching scripture.

She was a prayer warrior and was a member of Sunny Side Chapel and Shady Dell Chapel where she was treasurer for both chapels. She is survived by one son, Steven B. Friend and wife, Sandy, Oakland; one daughter, Daisy M. Murray and husband, Tom, Oakland; two brothers, Floyd Shreve, Oakland; Samuel Shreve, Madison, WI; two sisters, Helen Ackerman, Mt. Lake Park, MD; Barbara Snyder, Swanton, MD; five grandchildren, Lisa Murray, Tony Murray, T.J. Riley and wife, Melanie, Rachel Friend-Lantz and husband, Michael, Sr., Seth Friend, and wife, Danielle; eight great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Murray, Joseph Murray, Gareth Murray, Nicholas Riley, Madison Riley, Michael Lantz, Jr., Lucas Lantz, Brantley Lantz; special niece, Susie Shreve and her son, Brandon Waters, Morgantown, WV; special thanks to Jennifer Hearn and Nanette Snyder for caring for Wilma.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, MD, 21550, on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the Shady Dell Chapel, Shady Dell Road, Oakland, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ivan Ackerman, Reverend Donald Uphold, and Reverend Paul Snyder officiating.
