Our much loved wife, mother and grandmother, Wilma M. Wood, age 79, passed away December 18, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Tyronza, AR on August 24, 1939. She married the love of her life, Louis C. Wood on August 18, 1956 after a whirlwind courtship of two months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Thomas C. Ballard and Era I. Ballard; four brothers, Wilford, Jerry Wayne, Earl and Gerald; and two sisters, Alma and Ruby, all of Tyronza, AR. In addition to leaving behind her spouse of 62 years, she leaves behind two sons; Ricky (Kay) Wood, Waterloo, AL and Curtis Wood of Huntsville, AL; two daughters, Sharon (Joey) Wood, Waterloo, AL and Lori (James) Sharp , Florence, AL. She also leaves seven grandchildren; Marissa (Perry) Inman, Waterloo, AL, Jason (Brittany) Wood, Florence, AL, Jeffery (Mindy) Wood, Dylan (Jennifer) Wood both of Florence, AL, Joshua Wood, Waterloo, AL, Tyler (Amber) Sharp, Florence, AL, Ashley (Cody) Avery, Central City, KY and an unofficially ‘adopted” grandson, Luke Baxter of Florence, AL; nine great-great grandchildren, Caden and Miles Inman, Caitlin and Emily Wood, Anthony, Braxton and Savanna Wood, Gavin and Ella Avery; two step-great-grandchildren, Dee and Gracie Sutton; brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Sophia) Ballard of Marked Tree, AR and sister-in-law and best friend, Rena Ballard of Springdale, AR.

Mom is most remembered for her loving hospitality to anyone who happened to drop in especially childhood friends of her children. She was a great cook and crocheted many baby blankets for her grands, great-grands and numerous friends. She loved puzzles, playing and winning Scrabble and reading.

She loved gardening and preserving food for her family to enjoy on their frequent meals together. She was also known for her love of hats and had quite a collection. Mom absolutely loved to fish and didn’t hesitate to brag if she caught the largest.

She was a faithful member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Church and loved her church family, often attending even if she felt sick during these last few months. She loved her Pastor and his wife, Bro. & Sis.

Bender and all the members of Oak Grove Church for all the prayers, food, visits and outpourings of love. She loved you all. Visitation will be Thursday, December 20, at 6:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Pentecostal Church of Waterloo, AL.

The funeral service will be Friday, December 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Steve Bender officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Perry, Jason, Jeffery, Dylan, Joshua, Tyler, Cody and Luke.

Honorary pallbearers are Garey Beck, Shawn Overholser, Brock Proctor and Brian Proctor.
