Obituary for Woodbridge “Woody” Stout (2018) Print Woodbridge “Woody” Stout, age 96, of Victory Avenue, Grafton, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born July 21, 1922, in Barbour County, WV, a son of the late William Thomas and Daisy (Sigley) Stout. He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Sue Jenkins and husband Jack, of Grafton; one son, Woodbridge “Baxter” Stout of Simpson; two grandchildren, Kirby Stout of Slanesville, WV and Marlee Stout of Grafton; two great-grandsons, Lee Stout and Lane Stout; one brother, Benwood Stout and wife Blanche, of Dunbar, WV; one sister-in-law, Joyce Stout of Rittman, OH; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Sue (McWhorter) Stout who passed away January 25, 2004; one grandson, Garret Stout; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Stout; three sisters, Thelma Adkins, Pauline Dennison, and Virginia Stout; three brothers, M. Wood, Woodrow, and Elwood Stout. Woody graduated from Philippi High School with the Class of 1940 and then graduated from WVU in 1950 majoring in agriculture. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He served in the US Army with the 605 Tank Destroyer in Europe from 1942-1945. He was the 4-H Agent in Richie County from 1952-1954 and then the Taylor County Extension Agent and 4-H Club Agent from 1954-1988. Woody and Harley Donham founded the first 4-H Junior Livestock Association.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 of Grafton, Grafton Masonic Lodge 15 AF&AM, WVU Alumni Association, Taylor County Farm Bureau, WV Cattleman’s Association; board member of the Southwestern Water District; Taylor County Community Action Committee; and his beloved Grafton Lion’s Club where he spent thousands of hours raising money for them by selling apples, peaches, mops, brooms, and jelly. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for the Lions Club. Woody was an avid WVU Football and Basketball fan, a season WVU ticket holder since 1982 and enjoyed watching football on TV.
He was the happiest on his farm in Simpson which he traveled to each day for 50 years making a total of 456,000 miles, to visit his cattle. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother to his family. He was member of the Blueville United Methodist Church in Grafton.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, November 9, 2018, from 2:00-8:00 p.m., and from 10:00 until the funeral hour on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John Flynn officiating.
Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Army National Guard Honor Guard from Kingwood. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in Woody’s name to the Grafton Lion’s Club 98 Meadland Road, Flemington, WV 26347 or to the Blueville United Methodist Church 195 Blueville Drive, Grafton, WV 26354.
