Obituary for Yim Hong Yee Mr. Yim Hong Yee died peacefully surrounded by family on September 2 in North Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 90. Yim was born on February 12, 1928 in Canton, China. When he was eight years old, Yim immigrated to the United States and was raised in Portland, Arkansas.
In 1952 he joined the Navy and served out his duty in St. John, Newfoundland during the Korean War. In 1955, Yim returned to Arkansas where he opened College Station Liquor Store which he owned and operated for 43 years in College Station, Arkansas. In 1956, he married Mary Loy of Helena, Arkansas.
Over eleven years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. His children remember him as a gentle and patient father who guided and encouraged them his whole life. Yim was a kind and generous individual who befriended everyone he met.
He was known for being a great storyteller as he recounted the people and experiences of his life. Yim enjoyed spending hours fishing on Lake Conway, where he often took his friends and family. On his return from a day at the lake, he would enjoy another past time of his – listening to music.
He was an active and dedicated member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he volunteered as an usher for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree Knight. Yim is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Marie (Van) Whitworth of Flower Mound, Texas, Mark Yee of Venice, California; grandchildren Hannah Whitworth of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Haley Whitworth of Flower Mound, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his son, Stephen Yee and his grandson, Tanner Whitworth. A visitation will be held Friday, September 7 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home; and a rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at 12 noon at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
