Obituary for Alan McNeil Moir Alan M. Moir, 99, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully at the Hope Hospice house in Ft. Myers on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Formerly of Chesterton, IN, he had been a Bonita Springs resident for the last 30 years.

He was born July 10, 1919 in Lorain, OH, the son of Alexander McNeil and Helen (née Smith) Moir. Mr. Moir was a proud veteran of World War II, serving first in the U.S. Army and then in the U.S Army Air Corps. He was drafted while in his sophomore year of college, and returned to The College of Wooster after his service.

While finishing at Wooster, he met Billie Lyons and they were married September 27, 1947. They raised their family in Lorain and Avon Lake OH, then moving to Chesterton IN when Mr. Moir was transferred from USX in Lorain, OH to Gary Indiana Tube works. He was a loyal employee of USX for 40 years.

He and Mrs. Moir moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement years. Mr. Moir was passionate about musical programs, and came to love opera in his later years. He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and the daily JUMBLE.

He was a staunch Presbyterian and was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage. He is survived by his loving children, Martha (Charles) Craycraft, Fort Myers, FL, Alexander Moir of Austin, TX, Jessica Moir of Houston, TX and Andrew Moir (Laura) of Dublin, OH; eight cherished grandchildren; and seven treasured great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie (née Lyons) Moir in 2006 and a daughter, Cynthia Thornburg in 2018.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs (www. fpcbonita.org) or to Hope Hospice (www.
