Albert Roy “Big Roy” Yates, 62, of Coal City, Indiana entered through the pearly gates to his eternal home on Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born on November 25, 1956, in Clay County, Indiana, the son of Albert Simuel and Arlea Jean (Newman) Yates. In his earlier years he had worked for the State Highway Department.

More recently he worked for Thatcher’s Trucking for over 30 years until he could no longer work due to health issues. He married the love of his life Elizabeth… Read More » Lance on December 31, 1986. They got to spend 27 wonderful years together until her passing in June 2013.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed attending church at New Hope Community Church where he was a member. He looked forward to his every Friday night sleepover with his granddaughter Abby.

She was Papaws buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert Simuel and Arlea Jean (Newman) Yates; his wife Elizabeth Yates; 2 sisters Carol Jean Yates and Frances Marie Zelenzy. He is survived by his sons Justin Sutton and Jerred Sutton of Clay City, Daniel “D.J.” Stamper and wife Natalie of Bowling Green, IN; a daughter Kelly (Stamper) Wilson and husband Tim of Clay City; a sister Linda Laswell of Clay City; 3 granddaughters: Makayla Stamper, Abigail Wilson, and Kaylie Harbour; a grandson Logan Stamper; a great-granddaughter Aurora McIntyre; and one great-grandson Gatlin Harbour as well as several extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street, Clay City, Indiana 47841 on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 4-8pm. Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday, at 11:00am with Pastors Dave Sivley and Brad Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Stephens Cemetery.
