Albert Sedeen, 92, born November 2, 1926, died reluctantly on January 24, 2019. Al was born in Chicago, IL of Swedish immigrant parents, Edith Harriet (Fagerburg) and Albert Eric Sedeen, and lived his early years in Rockford, IL. After high school graduation as an ROTC cadet, he served in the Army in WWII, and was assigned overseas to help repatriate our troops.

Thanks to the GI Bill, he earned a degree in Architectural Engineering from the Univ. of Illinois, graduating with honors, and later his master’s degree in Architecture from OSU. His work as an architect began in Newark, OH with Joe Baker, later as a partner with Julius Bloom and finally as a principle with The Design Group, Columbus, OH from 1978-1995.

Al was preceded in death by his spouses, Margaret Roherty, the mother of his children, and Judith Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Diane Hunter, his son Matthew Sedeen (Sharon) of West Virginia and their children: April, Rachael, Matt, Aaron, Grace and Robin, and by his daughter Katie Darnall (Tom) of Columbus, OH. Al was also held in high esteem by Diane’s family who knew him well during his final years: Beth, Steve and Craig Sommer; Lauren and Nate Robinson; Patti, Rich and Jack DeLano.

Al was a fine cook, artist, world traveler, bibliophile, and environmentalist. He read daily, often while listening to classical music. He possessed a great curiosity and intellect.

Al’s nature was to be gracious and accepting. He was humble, kind, and appreciative of any kindness shown toward him. He was a conscientious resident of the planet and developed an impassioned interest in recycling.

He and Diane enjoyed traveling together, frequenting cultural events and exhibits and dining out. Al was a member of Broad Street Presbyterian, 760 E Broad St., Columbus, OH, where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 29th, at 11:00 am. A luncheon celebrating Al’s life will follow 12:30 – 2:30 at the Waterford Tower Party Room, 155 W Main St, Columbus, OH for family and friends.
