Obituary of Alta Freeman Alta “Mae” Freeman, 76, went to be with the Lord in her home at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2018. She was born in Red Fox, KY, on October 30, 1942, to James Madison “Mac” and Maudie (Jent) Combs. She married her first husband, Jack Honeycutt, on February 16, 1963, and they shared 23 years together before he passed in February of 1986.

She then married Larry Ronald Freeman on January 29, 1992, and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2014. Mae was a graduate of Carr Creek High School in Kentucky. After moving to Indiana, she was a packer/inspector at Foster-Forbes and retired after 30 years of service.

She was a member of Lydia Baptist Church. All who knew Mae will remember her for her outgoing personality and how much she loved to laugh. She genuinely loved people and she “walked the walk” by spending time with them, talking with her neighbors on the front porch, and sharing with others whatever she had.

She loved to cook, work in her flower garden, watch basketball, and attend Bible studies at church. Mae also enjoyed listening to music, whether it was the Gaithers or Kenny Rogers. Whenever possible, she loved to take car rides in the country.

She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Those surviving include her son, Jack Honeycutt, Marion; daughter, Cherie (Eric) Steele, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Tyler Honeycutt, Jimmy (Carly) Kellems, Crissy Kellems, Matt Kellems, and Michelle Kellems; 3 great-grandchildren, Zoey, Harrison, and Iya Kellems; and siblings, Marcus (Lydia) Combs, Imogene (Jim) Travis, Juanita (Ron) Soards, and Helen Collins. In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Herb Collins, and a brother, Lawrence Combs.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Mae’s life will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Marcus Combs officiating.

Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity. Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimers Association, 50 E. 91st St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830 or Grant County Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 63, Marion, IN 46952.
