Obituary of William Montgomery William E. Montgomery, 88, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 1:38 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2018, at Marion General Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1930, in Marion to the late James K. and Ruth F. (Bailey) Montgomery. On January 1, 1954, he married his loving bride, Betty L. Henry, and she survives.

A lifelong resident of Marion, William served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1950. Following his military service, he worked at Foster-Forbes for 41 years until his retirement. He was a follower of Christ and was actively involved at Marion Memorial Tabernacle, where he was a member, Sunday School teacher for youth, and Sunday School Superintendent.

William was a lay preacher and held services for Colonial Oaks Health Care Center for 17 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and reading. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty, Marion; children, Sandra Griffin, Angola, David (Dixie) Montgomery, Marion, Susan Bartlett, Marion, and Shirley (Calvin) Russell, FL; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert (Shirley) Montgomery, and Linda (Ray) Mooneyhan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Delene Beatty; brother, Ronald Montgomery; brother-in-law, Jim Beatty; and sister-in-law, Donna Montgomery. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. , Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate William’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Marion Memorial Tabernacle, 1533 E. 37th St., Marion, IN. Rev. Lois Helm and Rev.

Arthur Jennings will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Fresenius Dialysis Center, Miller’s Merry Manor, and Marion General Hospital Comfort Care. Memorial contributions may be directed to Marion Memorial Tabernacle, 1527 E. 37th St., Marion, IN 46953.
