Obituary of Ronald Christopher Ronald Eugene “Gene” Christopher, 96, died on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion. He was born on June 6, 1922, in Gas City and was raised by William and Mattie Christopher. He lived his entire life in Grant County.

His first wife, Angie Henderson, died in 1974 and he later married Lois Harmon on June 18, 1977, who died on January 11, 2015. Also preceding him in death were his daughter, Susan Tompkin (on September 14, 2007), and several siblings including Margaret Turner and Blanche Usher. He is survived by one son-in-law, Elliot Tompkin, Madison; one granddaughter, Angela Tompkin (Chuck) Anger, Slidell, LA; one step-daughter, Joni (Rick) Fenwick, MI; and three grandchildren, Timothy Anger, Patrick Anger, and Ricky Fenwick.

Gene was the long-time owner of the Morris Furniture store on Eighth and Washington streets in Marion. He and Lois also owned the Gingham Square clothing store that specialized in square dance attire. They enjoyed square dancing and were proud that they were able to dance during the Pan Am Games which were held in Indianapolis.

Gene was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Marion. He served on many boards and was a leader in the church until the time when he became ill. The church was a very important part of his and Lois’ life.

He was an outgoing and dapper fellow who made friends easily and enjoyed many interests. He once surprised his then pre-teen granddaughter with tickets to a New Kids on the Block concert. He came home shaking his head trying to regain his hearing after being trapped in a sea of hysterical screaming girls.

He loved every minute but would never admit it. His love of his granddaughter continued with his love of his great-grandsons. While in the nursing home, he enjoyed visits from the boys.

Even toward the end of his life, he may not have known exactly who they were, but his eyes still lit up when he saw them. Visitation is from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with Gene’s funeral service beginning 2 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. , Marion, IN.

Pastor Mick Simpkins and Charlie Hall will be officiating with burial following at Estates of Serenity. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 403 w. 4th St., Marion, IN 46952. Online condolences may be made at www.
