Mr. Alvin Ray Tyndall, 74, passed away after a brief illness on March 24, 2019. Born on September 5, 1944 in Wilson, NC to Paul Anderson Tyndall and Repsy Wooten Tyndall, he attended public schools in Wilson, graduating from Fike High School in 1962. He fell in love with UNC Chapel Hill and attained a BA in Political Science, class of 1966.

He first worked for the NC Department of Corrections at Umstead Youth Center. In 1969 he became manager for the Winston-Salem Symphony. He then worked for 30 years as Information and Communication Specialist for CenterPoint Human Services.

Mr. Tyndall became active in the Winston-Salem arts community, after moving to Winston-Salem in 1969. He was a Jaycee for years, actively involved in the Miss NC and Miss America Scholarship Pageants. Beginning in childhood he loved the stage and became an actor and director with community theatres, and artistic director of the Stained Glass Playhouse for 35 years.

All knew him as a devoted Tarheel supporter and fan. He was a member of the UNC Glee Club from 1963-1966, a life time member of the Alumni Association, and a member of the Old Students Club. He was a baritone and shared his singing in the UNC Men’s Glee Club and church.

An active member of Marvin United Methodist Church, he wore many hats and was loved by all. He never met a stranger. His life touched many of all ages as mentor, counselor, thespian, Santa’s helper, friend, husband, father, godfather, and grandfather.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Sylvia of the home; beloved son, Allen and daughter-in-law, Tonda of King, NC; and grandchildren, Shianne and Seth Tyndall of King, NC. He leaves a legacy of joy in living and serving. A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Marvin United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev.

Sonia Zuniga officiating and a worship memorial service at 11:00am in the church sanctuary. A celebration of life reception will follow from 2-6pm at the Stained Glass Playhouse.
