Anand Swaroop November 07, 1943 – January 27, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Anand Swaroop MD, 75, of Ocean Township passed away on January 27, 2019 at his home surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Bareilly, India, he was a graduate of Lucknow University where he also completed his Medical Doctorate. Anand served as an intern and resident at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, India immediately prior to immigrating to the United States in 1970.

Upon arriving in the U.S., he served as an intern at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (formerly Middle General Hospital) and completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where he was an Instructor in Orthopedics 1974-1975. After completing his residency, Dr. Swaroop moved to the Jersey Shore and entered into private practice by affiliating with the Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSMC) in Neptune, New Jersey where he practiced medicine from 1975-2007. He was a Senior Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at JSMC.

He also served on the hospital Executive Committee and as the Director of the Department of Orthopedics from 1988-1999. Anand oversaw a talented team of surgeons, nurses and staff and played an instrumental role in JSMC becoming a Level II Trauma Center in 1990. Dr. Swaroop had a great passion for helping others.

He was a dedicated surgeon who always put his patients and staff before himself. Anand had a keen intellect and an affinity for spirited conversation and debate. He loved the New York Yankees and the New York Post and he always seemed to be happiest in early April at the beginning of baseball season.

He also had a passion for gourmet food and was an excellent cook. One of his favorite pursuits in life was cooking a gourmet meal and sharing it with friends and family. “It’s so good, you would love it” he would often say.

Anand’s greatest passion of all was his family. He met his loving wife, Pat, in 1971 at the Crippled Children’s Hospital in Newark, NJ. They married in 1972 and recently celebrated their 46th anniversary.

He was the proud father of 2 children and 5 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Lajjawati Sabherwal and his father, Kherati lal Sabherwal. He is survived by his wife, Pat, his daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Jason Hicks, of Summit, NJ, and his son Arun Swaroop and his wife, Angie, of Tinton Falls, NJ; his precious grandchildren Ellie, Katherine & Maddie Hicks and Andrew & Abigail Swaroop; his brothers Ved Prakash Sabherwal & Bimal Sabherwal and his sister, Sashi Gulati.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Buckley Funeral Home 509 2nd Ave, Asbury Park, New Jersey 07712. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday 11:00am at the Catholic Church of Saint Anselm located at 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712.
