Andrew’s Obituary Andrew Michael Knapik, 45 of Corinth, Texas passed away on January 21, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on July 5, 1973 to Andrew James and Barbara Ann (Cegonko) Knapik in Cleveland, Ohio. After suffering a series of heart problems over the past 5 months, including an artificial heart pump (LVAD), Andy was the recipient of a heart transplant in early December, but was not able to recover from various complications, despite the best efforts of Baylor’s finest doctors, nurses and staff.

Andy is a recent graduate of UNT, and was pursuing his MBA in Non-Profit Management. He was a founding member and Vice President of DMAC, Denton Music and Arts Collaborative, a non-profit organization created to preserve the cultural integrity of Denton by enabling musicians and artists to continue to thrive here… namely by subsidizing healthcare coverage. A native of Cleveland, OH and long-suffering Browns fan, Andy was a skilled carpenter and artist before moving to Texas in 2007.

Andy’s warm, friendly personality was a perfect fit for Denton, where he became a regular volunteer, community activist, 2-time achiever of RG’s King Kong Burger Challenge, 2-time Winner of the Golden Jesus Chili Cook Off (3rd place 2018 & 1st place 2015), a Texas Notary and Ordained Minister of both the Church of Human Spiritualism and Church of the Sub Genius, which enabled Andy to officiate weddings for numerous family and friends. Andy was a devoted husband of 21 years, foster father to 5 children, and adoptive father of 3. He is survived by his wife, Heidi, daughter Izzy, sons Josh and Ethan and his brothers, Matthew Knapik and Douglas Knapik of Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2-4 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to attend a pot-luck reception at Dan’s Silverleaf on Sunday, from 5-7:pm.

A Mass will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date, to take place in Cleveland, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to DMAC.
