Ann Addy, the loving wife of Miles Hadley, died on January 13, 2019. Ann was born on December 28, 1954 to Robert and Sara Addy of Leesville, South Carolina. She graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School and the University of South Carolina with a BA in Journalism.
Ann began her career in newspapers in Seneca and Bishopville. Ann worked at the SC Department of Mental Retardation, SC Technical College System, Municipal Association of South Carolina, Semaphore Inc., the city of Columbia, Columbia College, the State Library, and her own public relations firm, Solutions! Ink.
Ann was an active member of the Midlands community; from her work with the SC Book Festival and the annual SC Read In, to her volunteer work with various organizations like the SC State Library Foundation and the Girl Scouts of the Congaree Area. In 2002, former SC Governor Jim Hodges recognized Ann’s volunteer work with the Girl Scouts of the Congaree Area by awarding her the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award. The only thing bigger than her smile was her passion for helping others in the Midlands.
While Ann had many accomplishments, what truly mattered the most to her was her relationships with her family and friends. Ann loved her family and her friends and the life she’d created. She lived life to the fullest each day, even while going through her two year battle with lung cancer.
Ann was married to the love of her life, Miles Hadley, and together they traveled the world. She cherished time spent with her son, Jason (Ike) Hadley; her daughter Jenni (Jody) Beckham; and her grandchildren, Cody and Carolina. She had an incredible bond with her parents, Robert and Sara Addy; her sister, Kathryn Hatfield; her niece Ivey Hatfield; and her nephew, Aaron (Cassie) Hatfield.
She was blessed to have so many people from all stages of her life that loved her dearly, to include the high school girls, her college friends, and her Book Club friends. Ann had a contagious laugh and a personality and style too big for words. She was incredibly kind, funny, hardworking, creative, loving, and spunky.
She lived her life with purpose, gratitude, hope, and was a driving force for good. She was, in many ways, the glue that held so many people together. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date.
