Obituary for Ann Beatrice Swafford Ann Beatrice Baird Swafford, 84, of Lancaster, SC, died June 11, 2018, at Springs Memorial in Lancaster. Ann was born in Gastonia, NC, on February 26, 1934, the daughter of the late Ancil Roscoe and Beatrice Kelley Baird. Her family lived in Tennessee during her childhood and she went on to graduate from the MTSU Murfreesboro with a BS in Education on August 24, 1961.
She taught for a short time and then went to work at the Pentagon. Later she moved to Charlotte, NC, and worked for Delmar Studios, at the Ovens Auditorium part time as an usher and ultimately went into the real estate profession with Four Seasons Realty from which she retired. She was very active within her sorority, Alpha Zeta, and many charities including St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
In 2017 when St Jude gave away the dream house in Mint Hill, NC, she and her sorority were worked for, sponsored and promoted the local contest. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. On May 14, 2011, she married Lester Eugene Swafford.
He preceded her in death on May 24, 2017. Survivors include her brothers: Ancil Baird of Seneca, South Carolina, and Richard (Helen) Kelley Baird of Marshall, TX; stepchildren: Carl (wife Cyndi) Swafford of Stallings, NC, Larry Swafford of Charlotte, NC, and Janet Swafford of Matthews, NC. She is further survived by 4 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 1 step great great grandchild, 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 5 great nieces, 2 great nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Dennis and his wife Susan Swafford in February of 2018. Ann’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. A gathering of friends and family will take place starting at 1 PM on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
At 2 PM, all present will gather in the funeral home chapel for a service led by Mr. Michael Neddo to celebrate the life, love and blessing of Ms. Ann. Following the service, all are invited to join the family as they proceed to Ann’s final place of earthly rest at Evergreen Cemetery. There she will be buried next to her husband.
