Obituary for Anna Catherine Douglas On May 22, 1930 Anna Catherine (Hornacek) Douglas was born to John and Mary Hornacek becoming a first generation American from parents who immigrated from Slovakia after WWI. She left this earth on November 5, 2018. The theme in the intervening years was family.
It did not matter what was being celebrated, as long as family was there, she was in her heaven here on earth. If a rousing game of Hand and Foot was included in the gathering, it was the icing on the event. She married Joseph Ruben Douglas on November 10, 1951 and together they grew a large and loving family.
She is survived by her children, JoAnn (Ted Niemi) Knack of Seattle, Ed (Sue) Douglas of Whitehall/Florida, Ron (Jan) Douglas of Maryland, Diane (Jeff) Lewis, and Steve (Eve) Douglas of Muskegon, along with her brother Tony Hornacek formerly of Muskegon and 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Joe; brother, Michael Hornacek, and her parents. She worked for many years as a cashier at the Meijer in Norton Shores and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Montague.
However, she is remembered by her family for being able to carry on a lengthy conversation with anyone. She could tell you exactly who gave her every item she owned and from which event it came. She hummed in the kitchen while she was making her delicious “grandma” food, especially her soup.
The grandkids always knew where to find the candy bowl; it was never hidden in her house. She could probably quote every episode of MASH or tell you what happened in every Lawrence Welk, even though they have not made an episode since 1982; she never missed one. But most importantly, she could always tell you where every family member was and what they were doing currently.
She never forgot anyone and was genuinely interested in keeping up on even the smallest details. She has left a large hole in her family’s lives for such a petite woman. Shuffle the cards, mom/grandma/Anna, and be ready when we get together with you again.
We love you and good night, good night until we meet again. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church (5149 Dowling St., Montague, MI 49437) with Rev. Peter Omogo presiding.
VISITATION will be from 9-10 AM Saturday at church. BURIAL will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
