Anna Ruth (Anne) Wilson, 93, of Orleans, Ind. , died peacefully Feb. 5, 2019, at IU Health Paoli Hospital, Paoli, Ind.

Anne was born June 24, 1925, in Lee County, Va. , to Olin and Olive VanDeventer Jones. She earned a B.A. from Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Va.

, in 1946 and a M.S. from Indiana University in 1971. She married Bascom Wilson Aug. 18, 1946 and moved to a farm in Southern Indiana to join her new husband, who had migrated from Virginia to Indiana in 1941.

She was the love of his life until his death Dec. 9, 1997. Anne taught English and Spanish at Orleans High School the 1946-47 school year and taught 9th grade English at Paoli High School for 29 years.

She was chair of the English Department at the time of her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Orleans Christian Church, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and Orange County Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Steve) Swarthout of Decatur, Ill.

; son, Loran (Kathy) Wilson of Orleans, Ind. , and son-in-law Ron Byrd of St. Louis. A daughter, Tresa Jo Wilson preceded her in death Aug.

26, 2013. She leaves five grandchildren, Matthew Swarthout, Decatur, Ill. ; Kristi (Anthony) Sweeney, Centralia, Ill; Ryan (Kristen) Sullivan, Ft.

Worth, Tex. ; Kara (Brian) Lee, Leavenworth, Kans. ; and Katelyn Wilson and fiancée Cody Gardner, Orleans, Ind.

; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Family requests memorial contributions be made in Anne’s memory to the Orange County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Janice Pickens, 3732 N. County Road 300 E., Orleans, IN 47452.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 9, 2 p.m. at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Larry W. Johnson officiating. Visitation Friday, Feb.
