Anthony Allen was born January 5, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio to Clifford and Annie Mae (Gordon) Allen. He was the second oldest of five children. Anthony passionately confessed Christ at an early age in Columbus, Mississippi during revival service.
He was baptized in the Tombigbee River. He received his education from the Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Glenville High School. From there, Anthony went on to join the Air Force where he received an honorable discharge.
After leaving the service he worked at the VA hospital for many years. Anthony moved to Sandusky, Ohio in 2007 where he joined the Cornerstone Missionary Church. He met and united in holy matrimony the love of his life Debbie “Boo” (Durrah) Allen as he affectionately called her.
Anthony and Debbie, later joined the Emmanuel Temple Church under the pastorate of Rufus Sanders. Every job that Anthony obtained, he took seriously and gave it his all. He loved his job at the Professional Transportation Incorporation (PTI) where he transported railroad crews to their destinations safely and on time.
He enjoyed providing service, as he developed relationships with organizations to help find released inmates gainful employment and reentry programs. Anthony had a genuine love for people, and he made friends wherever he went. He loved singing gospel music and often sang with his family when they got together.
He loved his family, and often played the roll of peace maker and protector. He was blessed with wisdom, compassion and a nonjudgemental attitude as he looked for ways to help. Anthony, loved to chop it up; having great debates and conversations with family and friends about everything from the news, politics, sports, and his favorite topic, the exploits of Amelio (grandson).
He would call sometimes and not even say hello; he would start the conversation by saying, “now pen this here” before burst out laughing at his own humor. He had a rough voice, but a gentle heart. He touched lives wherever we went.
One of our fondest memories of Anthony are the cookouts he and Debbie would have at their home. He loved having his family with him at the same time. He had a special relationship with each one of his siblings, children and grandchildren.
Everybody have an “uncle Bubba”, “Bubba” and “a “Beau” story that’s unique to his relationship with them. He would gravitate to the underdog; the ones who had problems. He would reach out and provide perspective and hope.
Anthony departed this life on Monday, September 17, 2018. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie Mae Allen, and his brother Marcus Levelle Allen.
