Anthony “Sonny” R. Colangelo, 88, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his family by his side. Sonny was born November 5, 1930, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Varlotta) Colangelo. He was a graduate of Torrington High School and served his country with the US Army during the Korean War achieving the designation of Corporal.

He was a Tool and Die Maker by trade, employed by Brunswick Manufacturing for 36 years until his retirement. A communicant of St. Peter Church, he was also a member of the St. Peter Holy Name Society. A member of Greenwoods Country Club, Sonny loved to golf, and he was a former member of the Foresters Club.

He unselfishly gave to a large variety of charities for many decades. He is survived by three brothers, Joseph, Andrew, and Dennis Colangelo; one sister, Lindamarie Ferris all of Torrington, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carmine, Vito and Brook Colangelo.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to all the highly competent and outstanding individuals from both the Torrington VNS and Litchfield VNA for the non stop compassionate and professional care they gave Sonny during his last six months of his life as well as the support, guidance and compassion they gave to his family, especially, his caregivers Linda and Cheryl Ferris. A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff on CHH’s 5th floor for the diligent care given to Sonny during his final days. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, with full military honors accorded.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (www. woundedwarriorproject.org).
